Malta’s main National Regatta is held on September 8th in Grand Harbour. This Regatta traces its history to the middle ages and is part of Malta’s National Day celebrations which are meant to celebrate Malta’s victories during the Great Siege of 1565 and the Second World War.
The magnificent Fort St Angelo provides an imposing backdrop to the sleek and colourful Maltese boats. Rowing teams from Birzebbuga, Valletta, Vittoriosa, Senglea, Kalkara, Cospicua and Marsa participate in a number of very exciting races.
This year, the Regatta will be officially opened by His Grace the Archbishop of Malta who will be blessing the boats, rowers and those present at 12:30pm. The first of ten races is scheduled to start at 1.00pm.
This Regatta is organised by Ghaqda Regatta Nazzjonali, the Maltese rowing federation, in collaboration with the Malta Sports Council for are responsible for the logistics and prizes.
