Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali, the National Rowing Federation, Given Technical Responsibility of the Malta National Regatta

The Maltese rowing federation Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali and the Malta Sports Council (KMS) have jointly published an updated text for the regulations which will oversee the forthcoming 8th September National Regatta. Important changes include a much clearer stand on issues such as collisions or doping, and a clause to protect rowers in case of injuries.

These regulations have been published after KMS has given to the federation the full technical responsibility for the rowing races in the Maltese National Regatta.

Joseph N Grima, President of the federation considers this as an important step forward which was long overdue. “The fact that the National rowing federation has been delegated the technical responsibility of one of the most important and prestigious events in the Maltese Sports Calendar signifies that Governments has confidence in our Association and its members. The Association, despite its limited resources, is fully committed to ensure that that regatta is a success and conducted fairly in a true sense of sportsmanship.”
Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali has also updated the text of its race regulations to bring these regulations up to date and clarify any perceived anomalies. “Our rowers are extremely committed to their sport and for them, all of their other activities are dictated by the training schedules for the Regatta. We owe it to them to organise a Regatta to the best of our ability. They also owe it to themselves and each other to abide with the regulations to ensure that they can reap the rewards they worked so hard for.”
The Maltese National Regattas are organised biannually on the 8th of September and 31st of March and are part of the celebrations of these National Days. This year, the first race for the 8th September Regatta is scheduled to commence at 2pm and will take place at the Grand Harbour.

L-Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali flimkien mal-Kunsill Malti għall-Isport (KMS) konġuntement ippublikaw test aġġornat tar-regolamenti tar-Regatta Nazzjonali li jmiss li hija dik tat-8 ta’ Settembru. Bidliet importanti jinkludu regoli aktar ċari dwar kwistjonijiet bħal kolliżjonijiet jew doping, u klawżola biex tipproteġi l-qaddiefa fil-każ ta’ korrimenti.

Dawn ir-regolamenti ġew ippubblikati wara li l-KMS tat lill-federazzjoni r-responsabbiltà teknika sħiħa għat-tiġrijiet tal-qdif fir-Regatta Nazzjonali.

Il-President tal- Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali, Joseph N. Grima, jqis dan bħala pass importanti ‘l quddiem, pass li kien ilu meħtieġ. “Il-fatt li l-federazzjoni tagħna ġiet iddelegata r-responsabbiltà teknika ta’ wieħed mill-aktar avvenimenti mportanti u prestiġjużi fil-Kalendarju Sportiv Malti jfisser illi l-Gvern għandu fiduċja fl- Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali u l-membri tagħha. L-Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali, minkejja r-riżorsi limitati tagħha, hija mpenjata b’mod sħiħ biex tassigura li din ir-Regatta mhux biss tkun suċċess, imma li ssir bi spirtu sortiv, kif huwa xieraq.”

L-Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali aġġornat it-test tar-regolamenti sabiex jkunu ċċarati xi anomaliji li seta’ kien hemm. “Il-Qaddiefa tagħna jiddikaw ħajjithom għal dan l-isport u għalihom, l-attivitajiet oħra huma sekondarji u ddettati mill-iskedi ta’ taħriġ għar-Regatta. Aħna obligati lejhom, u rridu nużaw il-ħiliet kollha tagħna sabiex ikollna Regatta organizzata. Min naħa tagħhom, huma obligati lejhom infushom u lejn sħabhom li jirrispettaw r-regolamenti biex jiżguraw li jistgħu jaħsdu l-frott tas-sagrifiċċji tagħhom.”

Ir-Regatta Nazzjonali hija organizzata darbtejn fis-sena; fit-8 ta’ Settembru u fil-31 ta’ Marzu u hija parti miċ-ċelebrazzjonijiet ta’ dawn il-jumejn nazzjonali. Din is-sena, l-ewwel tellieqa tar-Regatta tat-8 ta’ Settembru ser tibda’ fis-2.00pm u ssir fil-Port il-Kbir.
